I just finished reading Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell, and I cannot recommend it enough. I was skeptical when I checked it out from the library because I’ve always been convinced that objective, carefully analyzed decision-making is always superior to snap judgments, but the author supplies enough scientific evidence to give real merit to the idea that “thin-slicing” does exist and can lead to better decision making. Fascinating stuff!
Gladwell also mentions the research of John Gottman at length, which is fantastic because I’ve always wished more people knew about him. You might want to check out John Gottman’s The Seven Princples of Making Marriage Work if you’ve been looking for no-fluff relationship advice!

Before and After

I didn’t grow up going to salons, so I pretty much have to catch up with what the rest of the female populace has been up to. Today’s modern therapy: eyebrow waxing. I asked for something a little conservative since it was my first time. What do you think? The before picture has a couple of oldies rolled into one: my hair was short, I still wore glasses (hooray for lasik!) and it was before I went on my diet so I was about 25 pounds heavier.

I just finished watching Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, which is as heartwarming as it is beautiful to look at! And how could I not fall in love when it features some of my favorite actors: Mark Strong, Cieran Hinds and Shirley Henderson. If I was planning a 1940s themed wedding, this would be top on my list for inspiration!

Speaking of menu holders…wouldn’t this be a lovely way to show your guests pictures of your parents’ and grandparents’ weddings? I think old photographs are fascinating, and it’s heartening to see heritage still being celebrated!
